A Vineyard: Where the Work Is Never Done

Every Friday evening, we try to just sit back and enjoy the beauty of the vineyard and appreciate all the hard work we’ve put into it over the last week. We’re often inspired to take a stroll through the vineyard with Jake by our side. We’re finished for the afternoon…we think.

Walking a random row, we’re appreciating the neatly tucked vines and the swelling clusters. We see a single vine has come loose and gently tuck it back into the catch wires. Than we see another. And another. Predictably, we have another item for next week's to-do list.

Suddenly we’re seeing new weeds where we just completed clearing the rows, suckers growing back below the drip line and from the root stock, and tiny spaghetti hoses that have come unhooked.

The final insult is the constant, yet always suprising, new gopher activity.

We smile, turn our backs, head for the deck and pour that glass of wine that has been waiting for us. As Scarlett said with a toss of her head, “Tomorrow is another day!”
