We here at Gantz Family Vineyards received a series of storms over the last week that reminded us that we really were living in the country. Sonoma County got about a foot of rain and more than 20,000 people lost power. Fortunately, the vineyard was unaffected by the heavy downpour. Our property is spread over a low hill that gradually slopes away on all sides, so we experienced none of the flooding that plagued many of our neighbors. And because of our Goldridge soil, which is sandy and loamy, we don’t have any standing water. Clay and I did spend a few hours Sunday evening reading by candlelight (and iPad) before we got our power back.
