Flowering at Gantz Family Vineyards

We have flowering in Block 4 here at Gantz Family Vineyards. Block 4 was the home of an overgrown kiwi patch when we bought the property. Now, it seems to be our most vigorous block – perhaps because it’s at the highest peak of our property – so we’re not surprised to see it blooming first. We expect the rest of the vineyard to follow shortly. Overall, flowering is happening a couple weeks earlier than it did last year, which was our first growing season. Flowering is when the stamens and ovules emerge on a grapevine, which are self-pollinating. With no showy petals, they’re a “flower” that only a grape grower could love, because each one has the potential to grow into a grape. We’re seeing about three clusters per plant and they’re big. We’re not going to count our chicken before they’ve hatched, but we’re hoping for great Pinot Noir fruit – and lots of it – to deliver to Kosta Browne at the end of the season.
